:
This part time, benefit eligible position is for the OR /Surgical Services working variable shifts, 40 hours per fourteen day pay period. This position will have a weekend & holiday committment along with scheduled 'call' shifts. Performs scrub duties. Assists in-patient care and related services in the Operating Room under the guidance of the registered nurse. Prepares supplies and equipment for use in surgical procedures. Applies principles of aseptic technique.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Assists in the orientation of new personnel and will orient new associates as needed and experience level will allow.
2. Plans for and prepares necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment required for surgical procedures.
3. Demonstrates knowledge and technical skill in the care and use of instruments, supplies and equipment used during a surgical procedure.
4. Performs skin prep as directed.
5. Assists in positioning and draping the patient for the appropriate procedure.
6. Properly identifies and handles medication passed onto the sterile field under the direction of the RN.
7. Completes accurate instrument, sponge, and sharp counts with a Registered Nurse.
8. Performs scrub duties such as handling of instruments, holding retractors, cutting sutures, and maintaining a sterile field.
9. Assists in transporting blood products and specimens to and from the Laboratory.
10. Ensures proper care of specimens from surgical procedures.
11. Performs all work in accordance with accepted standards of sanitation, safety and proper handling techniques, including sterilization and high level disinfection's procedures.
12. Assists Registered Nurse as directed.
13. Develops and maintains effective communication with patients, medical staff and hospital personnel.
14. Makes a conscious effort to contain costs within the department and to the patients.
15. Provides general direction in clinical setting to student surgical technologists assigned to surgery.
16. Assist other team members with room cleaning and turnover.
17. Restocks OR rooms and supply cabinets with supplies according to departmental procedures; rotates supplies as needed.
18. Be "on call" for emergencies and available for additional duty if necessary.
19. Assists in maintaining equipment rooms; checks instruments that need to be sent to Material Services for processing; locates missing instruments; prepares surgeons' instruments for following day's schedule.
20. Assist Team Coordinators with projects involving instrumentation and preference cards.
21. Maintains patient confidentiality.
22. Assist in transporting patients.
Qualifications
Education:
1. High school graduate or the equivalent.
2. Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
Licensure/Certification:
1. Current CPR certification.
2. Current Surgical Technology Certification required.
Experience
:
Experience preferred but not required.
