DUTIES:
This position is located in the Primary and Specialty Medicine Service.
All work is to be performed at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System (NWIHCS) of the Veterans Health Administration, Depar! tment of Veterans Affairs. Patient safety shall be a primary focus of the cardiologist. Every effort shall be made to prevent medication errors, falls, and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care. All care provided shall be based on assessed patient needs. Findings from assessment and reassessment shall be clearly documented in the medical record, which is used by all members of the interdisciplinary care team in care planning and treatment. Assessment for invasive procedures will include all elements as explicitly outlined in VAMC Bylaws and applicable policies. The cardiologist is required to provide percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) services. Services will include emergency and urgent cardiac cases referred from within the VA Nebraska Western Iowa Healthcare System (NWIHCS), Omaha Division, and potentially other VA facilities in the region. In addition to general cardiology outpatient clinic duties, typical interventional ca! rdiac care responsibilities will include use of the cardiac catheteriza! tion lab, echocardiography, cardiac ultrasound cardiac device implant and intracoronary stent placement.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, variable hours
Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience
Experience with academic medical practice in a teaching hospital.
