Paramedic
Hours: varies depending on need.
Functions within the scope of practice of a Paramedic as defined within state regulations.
Provides patient care and performs patient care procedures: EKG, Accu checks, CPR, Crutches, ace b! andage application, splint application, wound cleansing, dress! ing, immobilization, medication administration under medical/nursing direction (IM DT, oral ASA and Tylenol, oral analgesics), IV insertions (plain). foley catheterization, intubation (only at the direct request and supervision of a ED physician who is present in the room), re-assessment of patient condition and status.
Responds to Code Blue in the ED and, when requested, on the hospital campus.
Provides patient transportation within the Emergency Department and on the hospital campus as requested.
Must have and maintain active membership on a Rescue Service in the state of Nebraska.
Experience Preferred:
Previous experience as a Paramedic is desirable.
Previous clinical experience in an Emergency Department or hospital setting is desirable.
Education/Licensure
Must have a valid certificate to function as a EMT-P (EMT-Paramedic) or EMT-I (EMT-Intermediate) in the state of Nebraska
Maintaining! an active membership on a Rescue Service in the state of Nebraska is preferred
Additional requirements include:
BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire.
Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO, must say Professional Level-with AED, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
ACLS or ACLS instructor certification is required within 6 months. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Heart Association: Advanced Cardiac Life Support, American Safety and Health Institute: ACLS, American College of Surgeons: ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) and American College of Emergency Physician: ACLS
PALS (Pediatric Cardiac Life Support) or PALS instructor certification required within 6 months. Acceptable creden! tialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Heart! Association: Pediatric Advanced Life Support, American Safety and Health Institute: PALS, Emergency Nurses Association: Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), American Academy of Pediatrics: Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP), and American Academy of Pediatrics/American College of Emergency Physicians: APLS.
