This supplemental position in the Endoscopy Department is available for an experienced RN. The Endoscopy Nurse is responsible f! or patient care activities associated with gastrointestinal and pulmonary endoscopy procedures performed in the Endoscopy area, Radiology, Surgery, Critical Care and general care areas. A supplemental assocaite will be scheduled to work a minimum of 120 hours over a six month period.

Essential Duties
:
Initiate and follow through on physician's orders appropriately.
Perform initial assessment and additional ongoing assessments.
Identify physical, emotional, cultural, social and educational! needs of each patient.
Assist the physician with all! procedures performed in the Endoscopy Lab and other identified areas within the Medical Center.
Start IV's and administers IV conscious sedation under direct supervision of physician.
Independently performs all GI and pulmonary-related procedures, evaluates diagnostic patient information, performs necessary calculations and processes recordings and data
Operate all endoscopy-related specialty equipment related to the performance of endoscopy.
Implements, performs and manages proper nursing practice.
Provide comprehensive patient preop and postoperative assessment and care.
Provide patient education and dismissal teaching when appropriate.
Assist in updating endoscopy guidelines and patient teaching brochures.
Assists MD with insertion of NG and feeding tubes.
Maintain infection control issues according to Medical Center policies and procedures.
Assist in the maintance of equipment, su! pplies, drugs and narcotics inventory.
Schedule procedures in the computer system.
Maintain confidentiality of all patients.

Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Must possess extensive knowledge and understanding of the gastrointestinal and pulmonary anatomy and physiology and disease processes.
Requires a minimum of one to two years experience in medical-related area.
A BSN must be obtained within 5 years of hire.
Licensure/Certification:
Current Nebraska RN Licensure.
Certification in basic life support (BLS) is required.
Certification as a Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse is highly recommended.
ACLS required.
Experience/Pre-Requisites:
Previous experience related to the field of pulmonary and gastrointestinal endoscopy d! esired.
Must be available to be on call as needed.
