Hours: PRN, as needed. On call shifts in addition to regular PRN hours.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists with pre procedure education and preparing patient for procedure.
a. Collaborates with other staff to as! sure patient has a thorough understanding of procedure and is ! able to answer questions as needed.
b. Assures patient is positioned properly for the procedure.
c. Assures EKG electrodes are properly placed and cardiac electrodes correctly applied.
d. Assures skin is prepped and sterilized appropriately prior to procedural draping.
e. Sets up patient and sterile equipment in accordance to the performing physician¿s preferences.
2. Scrubs and assists physicians during procedures.
a. Assists physician in sterile placement of invasive and hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
b. Uses fine motor skills to assist physician with the placement/deployment/use of invasive catheters, wires, balloons, stents, structural heart devices, Intra-aortic balloon counter-pulsation equipment, percutaneous left ventricular assist devices, implantable cardiac devices, and electrophysiology catheters/3-D intra-cardiac conduction mapping.
3. Performs monitoring function throughout procedures. Documents clinical informatio! n in patient record.
a. Operates hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
i. Recognize and report changes in the cardiac rhythm.
ii. Recognize and report changes in hemodynamic waveforms.
iii. Accurately documents the flow of events from start thru completion of procedure.
4. Performs arterial and/or venous sheath removal utilizing deployment of closure devices, manual pressure, or mechanical compression and transport patients.
5. Performs daily maintenance, quality assurance testing, and cleaning
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Preferred: One-year of experience working in a cardiac cath lab as a cardiovascular technologist.
Educational/Licensure:
Required: Candidates will be graduates of an accredited Invasive cardiovascular technologist program or have 20 or more years of direct cath lab experience. Candidates will also be required to become registered as either a RCIS or RCES within 1! 2 months of hire.
BLS or BLS instructor certification is requi! red upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO, must say ¿Professional Level-with AED¿, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
ACLS or ACLS instructor certification is required within 6 months. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Heart Association: Advanced Cardiac Life Support, American Safety and Health Institute: ACLS, American College of Surgeons: ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) and American College of Emergency Physician: ACLS
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of RAO, LAO, cranial, and caudal views. Knowledge of standard invasive cardiology supplies and equipment. Knowledge of EKG rhythms and abnormalities. Knowledge of cardiac and vascular anatomy.
