The Clinical Manager will supervise the daily clinical activity of the department in partn! ership with surgeons, sterile processing, anesthesia, materials management and the operations manager. The Clinical Manager will support the Director and the Co-management committee by taking accountability for the effective, competent and efficient delivery of patient care in the operating suites.
Essential Duties:
Operational duties
Provides leadership and direction for the staff assuming daily responsibility for coordinate and monitoring utilization of personnel. He/she will work with the Director and Board Coordinator to validate effective staffing for cases but will understand and work toward meeting Solucient staffing ratios.
Plans for staffing needs on a long and short-term basis utilizing approved systems of management and adjusting based on workload and other staffing variables to maintain safe, efficient care in an effective manner. Prepares staff schedules and assignments and insures accurate time reports are submitted per ho! spital policy.
Responds to physician, staff, provider! and patient satisfaction needs; identifies and implements solutions in collaboration with related department(s) with awareness of Co-management and organizational goals
Works with the Perioperative Management Team to identify and implement operational goals to best meet the needs of the organizations patients, providers and staff. Actively supports initiatives and work of other departments.
Works in partnership with fellow managers to contribute to and support their work including financial planning, capital identification, and instrument needs and processes.
Is aware of and supportive of organizational stewardship and process improvement initiatives representing the department when necessary and manages implementation in the department towards the best outcomes.
Clinical supervision
In collaboration with director interviews potential staff members and recommends hiring of applicants with appropriate behavior and skills
! Counsels and coaches staff concerning their work performance and development serving as a role model and mentor for them during their daily assignments; holds staff accountable for performance and compliance with department and organizational initiatives.
Supervises staff work flow directing and assigning staff as needed to best meet the goals of the department.
Works with the Service Line Leaders to establish progressive goal completion for staff and will work with director to deliver annual reviews.
Physician Relationships
Talks with surgeons daily to insure equipment, scheduling and staffing needs are being addressed
Is the âgo to personâ for the surgeon when he/she has issues related to departmental operations
Productivity and Quality
Monitors best practice in clinical, safety and operational systems and coordinates process improvement initiatives to improve the surgery department.
Is knowledge! able and understand surgical standards, policies and procedures and val! idate team members are following them appropriately
Continually reviews staff processes and makes recommendations for change to ensure compliance with established standards of nursing care as well as Medicare/Medicaid guidelines and JCAHO standards
Collaborates with the Education Coordinator to identify and facilitate staff orientation, education and in-services for department.
Professionalism
Contributes to, communicates and is knowledgeable and supportive of the Organizationâs, Co-Managementâs and Directorâs strategic goals and initiatives.
Contributes to and supports administrative initiatives, programs and changes by facilitating discussion and process change, educating and helping staff make practice changes as required.
Inspires others in professional goal attainment and is supportive of the OR Shared Governance model.

Promotes servant leadership and utilize the individual talents of his/her team to maximize the success of patient care and the strategic goals of the organization.

Actively pursues evidence-based practice
Encourages staff to obtain advanced degrees, advance in the RN clinical ladder and AORN certifications.
Coordinates with the Sterile Processing manager as needed.
Works with materials management staff, sterile processing staff and Service Line Leaders/Resource staff to inventory specialty items, check outdates on products, and talk to product representatives about costs and requested products.
Assists Service Line Leaders/Resource staff in evaluation of surgeon requests for new instruments.
Assists where needed (control desk, sche! duling, circulating cases) in addition to rotation.
Assists th! e OR Board Scheduler with daily specialty team assignments.
Validates and completes KRONOS.
Works with Director to understand and support purchasing contracts, inventory objectives and budgeting processes.
Works with Service Line Leader and Resource staff and Billing & Documentation specialist on preference cards and preference card changes.
Coordinates with ORSLCs regarding staff needs, issues, education, etc.
Acts as a liaison for nursing peer review and yearly peer evaluation follow up
Qualifications
Education:
REQUIRED: RN with Bachelors degree in Nursing or related field.
Licensure:
REQUIRED: Current licensure to practice in the state of Nebraska as a Registered Nurse. CPR certification and ACLS within 3 months or employment.
Experience:
Three years clinical experience in an operating room plus two years of progressive management experience.
