DUTIES:
This position is located in the Primary and Specialty Medicine Service.
Generalized duties of a staff cardiologist involve a focus on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of many! different heart and blood vessel conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart arrhythmia, high blood pressure, peripheral arterial disease and heart failure. Standard tests are used such as electrocardiograms to make diagnoses. The cardiologist may confer with cardiac surgeons when major surgery is deemed necessary. Duties specific to the cardiologist in this position may include cardiac MRI, echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound), special echosonography studies and servicing cardiology consultation requests on the inpatient service. Covering on-call services for cardiology on nights and/or weekends may be required. The cardiologist will also use ambulatory cardiac monitoring devices such as Holter devices to aid in diagnosis and treatment. The cardiologist will have staff responsibilities in the general cardiology clinic and serve as the Attending physician for cardiology fellows in training. Being certified to perform diagnostic cardiac catheterization is preferre! d but not mandatory.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience
Experience with academic medical practice in a teaching hospital.
