DUTIES:
This po! sition is located in the Office of the Chief of Staff.
The position for physician is for an Associate Chief of Staff of Clinical Services and is responsible for providing administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the physician clinical programs to ensure achievement of the clinical and business goals in the VA Nebraska Western Iowa HCS strategic plan. The duties of the Associate Chief of Staff of Clinical Services includes, but is not limited to:
Positively support the goals of all Clinical Services at the VA Health Care System, Veteran Integrated Service Network (VISN) and the Veteran's Health Administration;
Maintain and promote high ethical, clinical and administrative standards that are carried into the decision making process;
Responsible for developing both long and short term policies and plans for clinical programs giving special consideration into the integration of those plans and programs within other service li! nes to ensure an interdisciplinary approach to a seamless health care s! ystem;
Make recommendations to the Chief of Staff, regarding all clinical patient care issues, including personnel actions (appointments, tours of duty, promotions, reassignments, awards, performance management, disciplinary actions) budget, major and minor equipment, space, benchmarking issues, outreach and networking initiatives, and "best practice" issues in compliance with the bylaws of the hospital system;
Support and ensure compliance on the part of all physician staff, support of the the resident supervision policy, clinical reminders, completion of encounters and consults, performance measures and indicators as required by local, VISN, and National policy.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
2. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a cour! se of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
3. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience:
1. Prior experience in implementing and monitoring quality measures in an academic setting.
2. Experience in Graduate Medical Education Administration.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lifting up to 35 pounds for 8-12 hours, intermittently, moderate carrying (15-35 pounds) for 8-12 hours, intermittently, lifting over 35 pounds with assistive devices in accordance with the Safe Patient Handling Policy except in emergent situations requiring prompt patient care, pulling for 8-12 hours, intermittently, both hands required, walking 8-12 hours, intermittently, both legs required, near vision at 13 to 16' Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 ! and 20/40 in the other eye, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing aid permitted, twisting, simple grasp and fine manipulation.
