Nurse Practitioner Cardiac and Vascular Surgery
Functions within the scope of practice for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses as defined by Nebraska/Iowa state law and licensure. A written integra! ted practice agreement between the APRN and the collaborating ! physician will define the provision of health care to the cardiovascular patient population.
Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members in the provision of medical care for the cardiac/vascular surgery patients. Meets with supervising physician as directed to consult/review patients plan of care.
Provides clinical coordination for the cardiac and vascular surgery patients though the continuum of care including services provided; works with appropriate patient care staff and acts as a resource to staff. Maintains flexibility in work hours to accommodate patients and surgeons; may work long hours or unscheduled shifts for emergency cases or peak period of activities.
Serves as an advocate and liaison between patients and families and physicians, hospital staff, members of the health care team, and community resources.
Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by reviewing patient records, obtaining a com! prehensive problem-oriented health history, performing physical examinations, formulating preliminary diagnosis and treatment plan based on available information, ordering diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments as ordered by supervising physician and applying advanced nursing principles.
Education/Licensure
Master of Science in Nursing is required.
Must have a Current Registered Nurse License in Nebraska or Iowa, Nebraska and Iowa are compact states, so license must be held in the state of your residence.
Must also be licensed in Nebraska or Iowa as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse APRN-NE or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner ARNP-IA, license must be held in the state you practice.

Jointly approved protocols between APRN and collaborating physician
Integrated practice agreement with collaborating physician
BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon h! ire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the fol! lowing: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO, must say Professional Level-with AED, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
ACLS or ACLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Heart Association: Advanced Cardiac Life Support, American Safety and Health Institute: ACLS, American College of Surgeons: ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) and American College of Emergency Physician: ACLS
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Job requires constant reading skills, verbal communication skills, and written communication skills.
Strong leadership skills and advanced practice nursing skills.
Ability to plan and organize work, keep abreast of changes within the area of expertise, make independent decisions, promote good public relations interpret data, and pr! omote positive employee morale.
